Principal's Report

Dear Families,

SPORTS DAY & COLOUR RUN FUNDRAISER – NEXT FRIDAY

Oh, how the term is flying by! It’s hard to believe that our Sports Day and Colour Run are almost upon us. Next Friday, 6th December, students will take part in the Whole School Sports Day over at Barwon Heads (see event information on Compass for all the details). Parents and families are very welcome to come and support, and if anyone is available to volunteer to help run the activities, please do let your child’s classroom teacher know prior to the event.

In the afternoon, students will return to school and prepare for the Colour Run on the school oval. Again, parents and families are most welcome to attend and cheer the students as they take part in the event, as we begin raising money for new junior basketball/netball rings.

A reminder that we are collecting fundraising through the School24 link. We encourage families to share the link with extended family and friends and welcome all donations big and small: https://www.school24.net.au/canteenorder/guest/event?ezp=2449

3/4 CAMP - COASTAL FOREST LODGE

What a privilege it was to take part in the Year 3/4 camp at Bellbrae last week. The students represented the school incredibly well, displaying their best behaviour, listening to and respecting the school staff, camp staff, facilities, and environment. I’m sure that the students went home with many stories and experiences to share and that they slept well on Friday night after an incredibly busy few days. One final thank you to the staff for making this happen! And just a few more photos…

2025 VOLUNTARY FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS

Shortly, families will receive information about our 2025 financial contribution options. 2025 contributions can now be made through Compass, and can be paid any time throughout the year, in accordance with our Parent Payment policy.

At Wallington Primary School, voluntary financial contributions play a vital role in enhancing the quality of education we provide. While contributions are entirely voluntary, we are deeply grateful for the support of our school community, as it enables us to offer a broader range of opportunities and maintain high standards of instruction. All contributions are handled respectfully, confidentially, and in line with Department policy. We thank you for supporting our school in this way.

CLASSES 2025

Following careful consideration, including analyses of our current approaches to the effectiveness of teaching and learning, cohort numbers, discussions with staff and the School Council, and other avenues for feedback, we have decided to implement seven straight year-level grades in 2025.

Having straight grades in 2025 works with our well-balanced cohorts and, as a model, has many advantages in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, including aligning with the design of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, and supporting effective differentiation, enabling teachers to challenge advanced learners while providing targeted support to those who need it.

Our approach will always endeavour to balance success in both academic learning and student wellbeing by ensuring teaching practices and student support are tailored to the unique needs of each class.

It is important to note that this is our model for 2025 and does not indicate a permanent change moving forward. The trial will allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of straight grades in meeting student needs and supporting consistent teaching practices.

BUILDING WORK SET TO BEGIN

Please note that preparation work for the new build is set to begin in the next week with plans to install temporary fencing, deliver site facility units, and arrange temporary connections and isolation of services in readiness for demolition of B Block over the summer holidays. Having worked on many other school projects, Lyons Construction prioritise minimising disruption to the general running of the school and will do their best to avoid interfering with things like pick-up and drop-off times. They pride themselves on adhering to the highest standards of health and safety management. It is important for us all to be mindful of their work and support them in their efforts to deliver our new building safely and on schedule. We thank you for your support.

2025 BOOK PACKS

A reminder that book packs need to be ordered by 8th December if they are to be delivered to the school in time for Term 1; late orders will incur a delivery fee and be sent directly to your home. The government stipulates that the 2025 Schools Savings Bonus ($400) cannot be used for Book Packs or Voluntary Contributions, but can go toward camps, excursions and uniforms.

Bears - Year 1/2s

Year 1/2 students designed an outfit for their felt bear using felt and material off cuts. We glued on joggle eyes and added a bear face with black fine liner pen. Students chose a doll house room and coloured in the background with pencil along with textas. They are so cute 1/2s!

The Junior School Council have organised a PJ Day.

Students, teachers and even parents at drop off or pick up, are invited to wear their favourite PJ’s to school. All coins donated will go to Story Dogs. A big thank you to Liz and Sally, our Story Dogs team at Wallington Primary School.

Story Dogs enables a child and a dog with their volunteer handler a weekly one-on-one reading session held at the child’s reading level throughout the course of a school year. The literacy program is based on the Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) model.
